Karen Robison becomes ministry intern at PLC!

The decision of this congregation at our Annual Meeting last January to bring on an intern has been a great adventure. The idea to fund and find an intern, using the remaining call committee funds, turned initially to Lutherhaven. The camp has a great history of summer staff and interns who can make the transition to help in local congregations. As the Strategic Planning Team began meeting with Bob Baker, Director of Lutherhaven, we began to realize, that like many other businesses, the camp was struggling to find summer staff. By late July we were informed that they would not have a staffer to recommend to us. This led the council to consider other options.

Karen has been involved this past year at PLC teaching adult Bible study classes, working with VBS, singing in the choir and on the worship team and preaching several times on Sunday mornings. After prayers and many conversations Karen’s name was proposed to fill the intern position.

Initially we hoped to have someone for few hours a week to primarily focus on our youth ministry. Upon conversations and some emerging strategies with the Strategic Planning Team, we are imagining developing a midweek ministry not only to youth but to all the ages of our congregation — a multi-generational ministry. The council unanimously approved Karen for the position and adopted a seven-month job description (cf. below) for Karen (along with a planning team) to develop and implement. She will also continue to preach and teach as determined. The position is fully funded with the current approved budget and will take us from October – April. As things progress, we will be considering how we want to proceed into the new year at our Annual meeting in January 2022.

This is indeed an exciting season for PLC and we are so thrilled to have Karen stepping into this new position for such a time as this!

You are invited in welcoming Karen aboard on Sunday, October 10, as we will have a time of blessing and install her into this ministry of word and service among us.
