Jars of Clay…

For He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have reception, the forgiveness of sins.    Colossians 1:13-14

We are transferred, moved into another kingdom, part of a domain no longer dwelling in darkness but one of glorious light.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…   1 Peter 2:9

We are children of God redeemed to appear as lights in the world (Philippians 2:15), or as Jesus said of those who follow Him:

You are the light of the world… let your light shine so that others may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

We just cannot escape (though we often forget) the powerful truth that our citizenship is in heaven with God, at His right hand with Jesus (cf. Ephesians 2:4-6, 19).

We are part of something far grander and glorious than we typically remember on any given morning as we wake and head into the day. And yet, what if we did recall our glory as we wake in the morning? What if, as we drive into the rising sun, we could believe that we are rising sons and daughters, beloved, belonging, becoming, and blessed to be blessings? What if we could confidently enter the day trusting that we are sent into the dawn to shine bright as stars in our work place, classroom, the grocery store, the diner where we are meeting friends for breakfast, the places we spend our lives volunteering, or the myriad of other daily destinations before us?

What if, rather than seeing the day as routine and mundane, you could believe deep down, that you are one of the sent ones, an ambassador for a coming kingdom, sent ahead to prepare your family, your neighbors, to show and tell others of the great and mighty One who loves beyond measure, who takes up residence within you for the sake of those who are currently without Jesus?

Jesus sends Holy Spirit to remind us of such precious and powerful truth. What if you wake each morning and simply say, “Welcome Holy Spirit” and trust Jesus’ promise of being given an indwelling counselor and helper to bring Him to life in your daily routines and routes?

You are one of God’s glorious ones in whom His life dwells.

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.   2 Corinthians 4:6-7

Shine today, you glorious ones, you jars of clay filled with God’s marvelous light! – Pastor Jon
