Come Holy Spirit!

“…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

It is the most wonderful time of the year. The season of Pentecost, which begins in June, is one of the key reasons Jesus has come for us, so that we would be filled with His Spirit. This is the reason for our salvation – not just the removal of sin, but for the indwelling presence of Holy Spirit. All that Jesus promised in regard to sending the Spirit has been fulfilled and is now available to everyone who believes.

I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17)

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name,

He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance

all that I said to you.” (John 14:26)

When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, and you will testify also, because you have been with Me from the beginning.”

(John 15:26-27)

“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.” (John 16:12-13)

On the day of Pentecost, the Spirit arrives in quite a dramatic fashion (cf. Acts 2) and is now poured out upon all those who believe. This means we are filled with the very same, resurrection Spirit as Jesus (Romans 8: 9-11) Who not only raises us up to new life, but also sends us out into our homes, communities, region, nation, and even to the remotest part of the earth, blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3-6). We are empowered with the gifts of Holy Spirit (cf. Romans 12,1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4) so that we can bear  the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 6:22-26) to our families, friends, neighbors, co-workers… powerfully demonstrating the power of Jesus as we go into the world and preach the gospel to everyone (Mark 16:15).

As we begin ministry with one another in June, what a most wonderful time of the year to be reminded and spurred on by Holy Spirit’s presence with us and in us. May we be eager to receive and in turn freely give all that Holy Spirit has to will and work in us for the sake of those to whom He sends us in our own homes, neighborhoods and even to the remotest part of the earth.
