Lutheranism 101

When was the last time you reviewed Luther’s Catechism? Or better still, when was the last time you reviewed the basic tenets and truths of your Christian faith? You have the opportunity to do both (because Luther’s Catechism emphasizes and upholds our Christian faith) beginning Thursday, April 19th, at 1:00 p.m. at the church. I will be leading the class which will cover the Apostles’ Creed, the Ten Commandments, and the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. Since the Lord’s Prayer was covered during the Lenten Season, we will not repeat that at this time. So here’s your chance to ask questions, study, and learn with other believers, or seekers, and mature in your faith. The class will meet each Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Join us !

The Sunday morning adult class which meets at 8:45 will begin studying the Gospel of John on April 22nd. John portrays the life of Jesus in a much different way than the other Gospel writers. This Bible Study is guaranteed to get and hold your attention with its fascination and mystery. This is also an excellent way to prepare for our Sunday morning worship each week. See you in class! What a glorious resurrection festival worship we experienced! God blessed us with a beautiful day and an inspirational worship service. Don’t you just love singing those Easter hymns with joy and enthusiasm? The Easter Season is six more Sundays of joyful hymns and anthems, and Scripture texts filled with the hope and comfort of the resurrection message. Please join us every Sunday for an uplifting start to your week! On the last Sunday of the month, April 29th, we have a “Whassup at Peace?” gathering after worship for an opportunity to ask questions and share ideas about our congregation with the Church Council. Visitors are also welcome to learn about the activities and plans of our church, and get involved in the ministry and mission we share. As Spring bursts forth with new life, so does Christ’s Church! Holy Week

Something I treasure about our Lutheran theology is that it is a theology of the cross. This makes it real in this sinful world. Jesus suffered and died on the cross for us and for our salvation. Holy Week is the time of the year that the cross is so predominantly brought to our attention because of the Passion of our Lord. Though he paraded into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and was hailed as a king, the tide quickly turned, and after preparing his disciples in that upper room on Maundy Thursday, Jesus was arrested, tried and nailed to a cross on Good Friday. If they only knew then, like we know now, that Jesus truly was the King of all kings, and He was lifted up on the cross to draw all people to himself. You are invited to walk with us through this Holy Week, and experience for yourself this saving history God had planned from the beginning of time. In doing so, you will also be prepared to celebrate the glory of Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday!

Mid-week Lenten Worship

Our Wednesday night Lenten Services at 7:00 are focusing on the Lord’s Prayer. This is an excellent way to review this section of Luther’s Catechism. The worship includes a meditation, plus printed questions with the opportunity for discussion and congregational participation, each week using a different petition of the Lord’s Prayer. Also, in the worship, there is time allowed for requesting favorite hymns from the Lutheran Book of Worship. Preceding the worship a hearty soup supper is offered at 6:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. A variety of soups are available, and there is a sign up sheet for anyone who would like to provide their favorite soup, or something to go with it. Soups are to be already heated in crock pots, due to lack of cooking and cleaning facilities. You are invited to join us this Lenten Season! Pastor
