but God…

Home > Pastor's Blog > but God…

There may be no two words that reveal the good news of Jesus more than: “But God”.

It is the great turn around. It is the mighty reversal, the upending of the downtrodden. It is Jesus raised from the dead, overturning the verdict of sin, death and the devil.

My flesh and my heart may fail

But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalm 73:26

this man (Jesus) you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death

Acts 2:24

And though they found no ground for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed. When they had carried out all that was written concerning Him, they took Him down from the cross and laid Him in a tomb. But God raised Him from the dead

Acts 13:28-30

Can you just feel the power of these words which bring everything that was to a halt and jars us into the new reality of God’s kingdom prevailing? Failing hearts strengthened… Jesus put to death now risen indeed! And the reversal continues on so many levels.

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 6:23

Our will and work falls short, but God does not! He turns our failure and grief and pain and guilt and condemnation completely around. Perhaps my all-time favorite passage:

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)  Ephesians 2:1-5

You see, God is for you not against you, working ALL THINGS together for His good, so you can know the limitless, overcoming, conquering presence, power, and love of God (Romans 8:28-32). You may feel isolated and separated, accused and confused, defeated, and depleted, sick or in great despair: but God rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loves YOU is bringing about a great reversal for you this day! – Pastor Jon
