Dorcas Ministry and Beyond!
Anna Dailey was recently inspired to create unique lap quilts for wheelchair users. She delivered 20 of her handcrafted quilts to The Village at Orchard Ridge on Easter Monday, March 28. The Village took pictures of the event and shared this on their Facebook page: “Our residents have been blessed with the gift of lap quilts specifically designed for those in wheelchairs (complete with pockets to hold tissues, a book, etc.!). These lovely quilts were handmade by Anna Dailey. Pictured here are Anna and Carla Skinner presenting the quilts to Executive Director, Ann Johnson. We are honored to be the beneficiaries of such a beautiful gift! Thank you, Anna, Carla and the Dorcas Quilters at Peace Lutheran Church for your many donations to The Village at Orchard Ridge.”
But wait, there’s more! Anna was approached by Activities Director, Holly Johnson, to possibly enhance six of the lap quilts into “fidget quilts” for memory care residents who often enjoy a sensory experience. Anna met with Holly’s intern for specific ideas in how to complete this project. Anna also took this challenge to her Quilter’s Guild, and they were also supportive of the idea! The inspiration is just flowing! Our friend and fellow worshiper, Bob Small of RSVP, has now engaged Anna to make fidget squares for the work he does with Area Agency on Aging! Amazing!
Let’s help Anna! She needs donations of approx. yard-sized pieces of fleece for the back construction of the fidget squares to prevent slippage. Thrift stores are a great resource! Drop off at the church any time.
