Holy Week will soon be here.  It is called “holy” for good reason.  It is the week when God’s own precious Son, Jesus Christ, suffered and died on the cross to accomplish God’s plan of reconciliation and salvation for the whole human race.  Only God himself could pay the price for human sin, and Jesus was willing to pay that price with his holy precious blood and innocent suffering and death.  God loves people and his whole creation so much that He would go to any extreme to restore us and raise us up from our fall and the depths of our sin.  This is what God accomplished in Holy Week; thus it truly is “holy”!

It began with the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday when the people praised Him.  They celebrated who Jesus was, and the wonderful miracles He had performed.  But when they celebrated the Jewish Passover on Maundy Thursday, Jesus turned the celebration of the old covenant and God’s saving his people from slavery in Egypt, to the new covenant of saving his people from sin and death, giving his own body and blood as the sacrificial Lamb. On Good Friday, Jesus died on the cross and was buried in the tomb.  On the third day, just as He had promised, God raised Jesus to new life.  Such a “week” could not be any more “holy” than that!

You are invited to remember the events of this Holy Week in the life and death of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as we worship together.  At 8:30 & 11 Palm Sunday, April 13, there will be a procession with palm branches. Our Youth will be serving breakfast between services, 9:40-10:45; a freewill offering will be received for the Youth’s ID Servant Adventures Mission Project in June.  Please be generous in return for a delicious breakfast!

7:00 p.m. Maundy Thursday, April 17, is the celebration of Holy Communion, instituted by our Lord at the last supper he ate with his disciples, before he was betrayed and arrested.  The altar is stripped at the end of the service in preparation for Christ’s death on the cross the next day. 7:00 p.m. Good Friday, April 18, our worship focuses attention on Christ’s crucifixion through the very moving traditional Tenebrae Service of Darkness and Candles.

Your participation in these Holy Week worship services will give you a deeper appreciation for God’s plan of salvation, and the work Christ accomplished for you.  It will also properly prepare you for the glorious festival of our Lord’s resurrection on Easter Sunday, 8:30 & 11 a.m. We worship a living Lord!  Celebrate the life He gives us!
